Trudy and Greg Brownfield Strategize
We had a productive and fun weekend gathering signatures for Trudy this time out. The campaign for Trudy Zaja joined forces with Greg Brownfield, who is running for the Illinois 55th State Representative district seat.
This week, we covered several precincts in Bartlett that also lie in the 55th legislative district. Trudy’s campaign gathered a significant number of signatures and is on target for accumulating enough to get on the Democratic Primary ballot.
Thanks go out to all the volunteers who braved intermittent stints of inclement weather. And thanks also go to our friends at the Greg Brownfield campaign.
I walked with my friend Carol. Greg’s field manager, Laurel, assigned us an interesting precinct in Bartlett: part of it consists of half-million-dollar homes, and the rest of it is a trailer park off West Bartlett Road. We got the part with the big homes, and the going was as slow as it had been fast the weekend before in Streamwood: the “D” houses were widely spaced, a lot of people weren’t at home on this sunny early fall day (no surprise), and two of the people I did manage to speak with claimed that despite their participation in the February 2008 Democratic primary, they are in fact Republicans (again, no surprise considering the neighborhood!) However, all the voters were polite and listened to what we had to say, and we did get a respectable number of signatures, as noted above. Carol was smart — she got a few extra sigs by going off the list and approaching people who happened to be outside their houses. (We will of course double-check all signatures before submitting the petitions.) I will remember that the next time I’m in a slow neighborhood. Meanwhile, Laurel and Greg made quick progress in their precinct and together we helped push Mr. Brownfield’s campaign past the 1,000 signature mark!
