Thank you, Hanover Township

All 53 precincts in Hanover Township have reported their results from the February 2 primary election, and Gertrude “Trudy” Zaja has won the position of Democratic Committeeman with 58% of the vote. Official results will be released later this month; meanwhile, you can look at the percentages for this and all other races at the suburban Cook County Election Department website, http://www.voterinfonet.org.

Now the real work lies ahead of us. Voters responded to Trudy’s pledge to unify local Democrats and build on her record of leadership and accomplishment with HanDI. The 2010 election season will be difficult for Democratic candidates in Illinois. In the wake of corruption scandals and the state budget crisis, Republicans sense an opportunity to seize the governorship and statehouse, as well as the open US Senate seat. Independent voters will make the difference between defeat and victory. We need qualified candidates who will campaign on records and issues, not merely party labels, and we need volunteers who will help share that message with their neighbors. Trudy and everyone on Team Zaja hope that all of you who have been following the campaign will join us in this task. You are invited to what is certain to be a lively discussion of election results and future plans at the next meeting of HanDI, Monday February 8, 2010 at the Poplar Creek Library, 1405 S. Park Avenue in Streamwood.
